8 was the goal….8 was conquered!!

July 30, 2007 – 2:17 pm

So Saturday morning the plan was to wake up at 7:00 and go run.  I had clocked a route to run twice and that would put me at 8 Miles even.  I was excited and nervous to run this 8 miles.  Low and behold…I wake up at 7:10….hit snooze and keep sleeping OF COURSE.

So I wake up at 8:15 finally and get dressed, shoes one, ipod up and ready, start\stop watch ready to go, I get outside to stretch a little and what do you know my luck…..It looks like the bottom of the sky is going to bottom out at any moment and shortly after I see this, Huge monstrous rain drops begin to fall.  So I threw my water in the car, got my purse and headed to the Y.  I really didn’t want to do this, I had contemplated going to the track at the High School because at least there it is confined and I am closer to my car if it really does indeed start pouring.  But when the rain drops became more steady I just continue on my way to the Y.

So there at the YMCA I began my trek on the "hamster wheel" to my 8 miles goal.  There were a couple other girls there running as well, they had been there for a little while running.  I got on the treadmill next to one, just to get me motivated and going.  I was less than thrilled to be running on the treadmill (for this distance at least).

So I pumped up the ipod and started jamming away……No irritations w\ the treadmill until about the 3 miles mark.  I was conciously trying not to look at the treadmill only because in my mind I would be counting the miles and minutes.  I had already covered up the time\mileage etc on the tready so I wouldn’t be focused on that for the whole time.  But at 3.7 miles Josh called and I only know that it was 3.7 because Josh asked how much longer I had….DARN IT…..I said 5.3–my first thought was GOOD LORD–this is going to take me a million years to run this 8 miles.  It was smoothe sailing after that.  Once I past that 4 mile "marker" (so to speak) I was ok.  The biggest hurdle though and to feel like I was *almost* there was at 6.5mi.  I had run 6.5 and I had even run 7 miles (at home) so this last mile was so wonderful.  Although a little bitter sweet as well.  It was a paingful last mile, but I knew that a mile was really nothing.  I mean when I have run 7 before….8 really wasn’t anything to *sweat* (pardon the pun) I finished in 83:26–YEA!!

So this week I continue w\ my 3 miles on Tuesday and 4 miles on thursday and then we venture on to 9 Miles next weekend……STAY TUNED!!!

Peachtree Road Race 2007

July 24, 2007 – 3:01 pm

Josh and I recently ran the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta this past 4th of July.  We had a blast.  This was the 3rd 10K (6.2 miles) we have done this year.

I set a goal for myself this year that I will run the Atlanta 1\2 Marathon (13.1 Miles) in November, another one in March 2008…..and continue that again PLUS all the other 10K’s that I have done this year.  This is all building to me running the Atlanta Marathon (26.2 Miles) in 2009….the year I turn 30!! I hope to continue to run that as a tradition just as I do the Peachtree w\ Josh.

What is the goal after I turn 30 you ask?  Who knows….maybe a sprint triathalon! That might be fun.  I have looked into adventure racing as well.  There is more of a financial investment into these activities.  So between now and then I need to get a good bike and get my butt in the pool emoticon

I’ll keep you posted on the training for the half.  you can check out the training schedule w\ the link to the right!  It will make you appreciate lazy days!!
